91st GLASGOW (NETHERLEE) SCOUT GROUP

Scouting is a non-denominational group that aims to promote the full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual development of boys & girls from aged 6 to 18 years. We also try to develop each person as a member of his local, national and international community.

Our Scout group was founded in 1931, moving to our present Scout Hall in Ormonde Drive in 1953. We have provided a strong base for Scouting within the district ever since. We are delighted to welcome members at any time, and offer the following groups:

beaverlogo_3colBeavers (boys & girls, aged 6 -8) meet from 7pm to 8pm each Friday during school term .

Most activity is centred round games and basic hand crafts and start to introduce some of the core Scouting themes.

CubsLogoCubs (boys & girls, aged 8 – 10) meet from 7.15pm to 8.45pm each Tuesday during school term.

At Cubs, the boys start to gain a wider experience of Scout activity covering exploring, getting to know their local environment, helping around the house, knotting, camping and well as sport, games and more craft activities.

ScoutsOnlyScouts (boys & girls, aged 10 – 14) meet from 7.30pm to 9.15pm each Wednesday during school term .

In Scouts, the boys have the opportunity to go camping, hill walking and orienteering as well as learning skills such as First Aid and knotting . Much of the emphasis is based on personal and team development, with the older boys taking responsibility for organising many activities. The highlight of the Scout Year is Summer Camp.

85th Annual Dinner

This year sees the 85th anniversary of the founding of the 91st Glasgow (Netherlee) Scout Group and to mark the occasion we are holding a celebratory dinner in the Scout Hall, Ormonde Drive, Netherlee on Saturday, 19th November, 2016 – exactly 5 years to the day from our last dinner!

Please spread the word to others. We are trying to reach out to all ages – so this may reach a confused parent of a recent Beaver, Cub or Scout. As long as they are 18 years old (born 1997 or before) then we’d love them to attend. We look forward to hearing from you so please see the attached invitation letter.

Kind Regards,
Craig Chirrey
