Pastoral Care

BAPTISM
The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated during morning worship on dates arranged in consultation with the minister. We make every effort to accommodate personal requests and circumstances. The Church of Scotland practises Baptism of Infants and Adults. Since the parents presenting their child for baptism are required to make profession of their faith, and then promise to bring the child up
within the Church , we aks that at least one parent be a committed member of the Church or be, at least, a regular attender at worship. The minister will offer sympathetic and compassionate guidance in every circumstance.
COMMUNION
The Sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated regularly throughout the year, and on three special Sunday morning services in November, March and June. A baptized person of any age is welcome to participate in the Sacrament. Members of other denominations are also welcome to receive Communion. The Church of Scotland makes provision for baptized children of parents who are members of the Church to participate with them, on agreement of the minister and Kirk Session.
WEDDINGS
Wedding services occur regularly at Netherlee and are arranged by the couple, in conjunction with our minister. Any member of Netherlee Church, any son or daughter of a member, or a person, not a member, but living within the parish of Netherlee, is entitled to be married in the Church by the minister. The minister will spend time discussing the nature and content of the marriage service with the couple.
FUNERALS
Our minister, Elders and pastoral care team are on hand to help during a bereavement. Funeral services can take place in Netherlee Church as well as at the crematorium. Any member or parishioner living within Netherlee can ask for the minister’s services, and we would recommend that the minister be consulted about the funeral arrangements as early as possible following bereavement. We also have visitors available, who are trained in bereavement counselling, and who would be pleased to visit you, to offer comfort and support in your time of need.
JOINING THE CHURCH
You can join the Church by:
Profession of Faith
Membership classes are held regularly for those contemplating joining the Church.
Certificate of Transference
If you are a member of another church, ask for a Certificate of Transference from that church and hand it to the minister or an office-bearer at Netherlee.
Resolution of the Kirk Session
If your membership of a church has lapsed and you wish to renew your membership in Netherlee, please contact the minister in the first , with a view to your membership being conferred by resolution of the Kirk Session.
For advice or information on any of the above, please contact the minister at: tomnelson@ntlworld.com
