BLYTHSWOOD SHOEBOX APPEAL
A big THANK YOU to everyone who has supported the shoebox appeal in so many ways. We have delivered 155 boxes to Blythswood Care which were very gratefully received.
Monday 20 November, at 7.30pm in the Lesser Sanctuary
Speaker: Dr Ronald Crawford
Title: Slavery and the Kirk – an inconvenient truth
Dr Ronald Crawford, Honorary Research Fellow and former Registrar of the University of Strathclyde is himself a member of Netherlee Church and is well known to many of us. Ronald is an accomplished author, and his address to the Forum coincides with the publication of his latest book “The Chair of Verity: Political preaching and pulpit censure in eighteenth-century Scotland”. The book deals with the subject of the inter-dependence of politics and the pulpit and the Kirk’s stance on issues such as heresy, political reform, popery and slavery.
The Forum is open to all, so please come along and join us, as we learn more about the background and history of our denomination. The evening should include a friendly welcome and refreshments afterwards.
Thank you to everyone who helped in any way with the coffee morning for Poppyscotland. The final total is a wonderful £827.36.
COMMON GOOD FUND
There will be a meeting of the CGF committee in the church at 12 noon on 19 & 26 November.
The next meeting of the Book Club will be on 24 November at 8.00pm. We will be reviewing “The Other Mrs Walker” by Mary Paulson-Ellis. Please contact church office for venue, and Sheena Wurthmann if you would like to join us.
TIME TO REMEMBER SERVICE
Our annual service of remembrance will take place in Netherlee Parish Church on Sunday 3rd December at 3.00pm followed by light refreshments in the church hall.
This service is designed to give bereaved families time and space to remember their loved ones at this special time of year and, as we remember, to seek the generous comfort of God. An invitation is extended to all.
For further information, please speak to the minister.
In the lead up to Christmas the foodbank will provide Christmas food parcels. Usually included are tinned ham, Christmas pudding/cake, box of biscuits, selection box, chocolate, snacks & nibbles and crackers. The usual toiletries and socks are always appreciated. Thank you for your continues support.
CHRISTMAS TREE FESTIVAL
On Saturday 9th December from 2pm till 4pm in the Sanctuary with refreshments in the Large Hall.
Members are reminded that our monthly magazine LINK is available on line. If interested, please complete a Members Contact Details form in the Welcome desk and place in the office tray in the Welcome Hall. This will help us to reduce the number of paper copies. Thanks.
WORSHIP AT NETHERLEE
Are you aware that if you have been unable to attend worship on a Sunday morning you can see the service from Sunday afternoon online? Many now have a “second look” enjoying seeing the service from a different angle thanks to our operators on the AV Desk. The service is streamed live on YouTube and easily obtained right here on the Website.
